This composition was commissioned by several educational bands in the USA, led by Hart Middle School (Michigan) and Bradley University (Illinois), along with their instructors/directors, Amy Rever-Oberle and Darrell Brown. As the title suggests, the piece begins with a 4-voice canon presenting the main and only generating motif. This is followed by a rhythmically distinctive section with a highly recognizable chromatic melody, which evolves throughout the section. Finally, the canon returns, leading to a brilliant coda reminiscent of the middle section.
