The work was commissioned by the “Vientos del Sur” Project through the Government of Nariño (Colombia). The title refers to a violent historical episode in the city of San Juan de Pasto (a town located in the department of Nariño, southern Colombia). My intention from the very beginning was not to create a descriptive piece, but rather a piece of music that would use elements referencing the events that inspired it. Therefore, I used a 5-note motif B♭(B), A♭(L), A(A), C(C), C#(K), and a local folk melody entitled “La Guaneña”, to build the entire harmonic framework, textures, and melodic lines. Written in a “non-melodic” and more textural style, with this work I attempted to further develop my own compositional language.
