Portada de la obra The Great Mystic Purchase Music

This symphony has been nourished from several sources. The first is, Ramon Llull, which is of course the starting point for the music. More than describing his life and work, I took some of his life spotlights to try to create a symphonic impression of them. Those are his youth life (I. From the court to Mysticism), the God’s calling (II. The visions and the cave) or the multiple peregrinations and his willingness to convert to the Christian faith all the non-believers (III. Peregrinations and conversions). Musically speaking, the piece is built up with many motives. The first has an oriental flavor (due to Llull’s great relationship with the arabic culture) Besides, there are also a couple of motives derived from the famous song “Las tres morillas” from the Cancionero de Palacio (XIV Century). Beyond his chronological proximity, what I found more interesting is its parallelism with the sociological context that Ramon Llull lived, a mix of arabic, christian and jewish culture. There are three different versions of this piece (Op. 27A, B, C), with 26', 24' and 21' minutes of performance time.
